Six More Weeks of 'Who Knows?!'

The News-Herald, February 2

These days, we never know what's next when it comes to the weather, COVID, whatever. Be ready for anything and be good to each other!

The Groundhog is Afraid of More than His Shadow

The News-Herald, January 31

It's 2021 and the Groundhog reminds us there's more to be concerned about than six more weeks of winter weather. I did this for my Downriver readers, but it's true everywhere. Can't get the COVID-19 vaccine? Stay in your burrow as much as you can!

Today's Cartoon: So Cold, It's Not Funny!

The News-Herald, January 30
Several days ago, when I drew my annual Groundhog Day cartoon for The News-Herald, I joked about the coming snowfall (which hit us Monday) and bitter cold (which moved in last night). Now, in the midst of it, it's clear that it's SO cold, it's not funny! Be smart and careful if you must be outside. This is the coldest it's been in many of our lifetimes - dangerously cold.

Cartoon of the Week: 'Weather' or Not You Want It, Winter is Here for a Few More Weeks

The News-Herald - January 31
Groundhog Day - our annual opportunity to blame a large rodent for our lingering cold, miserable weather. Even if spring is six weeks away, there's one sign of the season that we can count on to lift our spirits - pitchers and catchers report in less than two weeks, folks!

Cartoon of the Day: Happy(?) Groundhog Day!

The News-Herald - February 2
Six more weeks of winter. What a surprise. Well, at least the Groundhog was refreshingly honest about his forecast. Now, let's all climb into his burrow with him and wait until we're awakened by the first songs of birds in the spring!

CARTOON of the DAY: Groundhog Daze!

The Press & Guide - January 30
I'd hate to be the Groundhog in SE Michigan in the 2013 run-up to Groundhog Day on Saturday. Single-digit windchills early in the week, nearly 60 degrees on Wednesday, and who knows what by the weekend? Six more weeks of winter? An early spring? Who even knows what season it is now?!

CARTOONS of the DAY: Happy Groundhog Day!

The Press & Guide - February 1
The News-Herald - February 1

So what if the Groundhog sees his shadow on Groundhog Day? Six more weeks of winter? We haven't really had ANY winter around here so far, have we? I'm not complaining - I'll drive a few hours north for some weekend skiing and happily not have to shovel my sidewalks and driveway.
