CARTOONS of the DAY: Equal Pay and Community Renewal

The News-Herald - April 18
It's troubling to me to realize that this is still an issue. As a college student/editorial cartoonist in the 1970s, I often commented upon and worked to support freedoms and equality throughout our society. Here I am, 40 years later, sadly still finding this a "timely" topic for an editorial cartoon. Thanks to the News-Herald editorial team - and especially Mavis McKiney - for contributing to this week's cartoon!
The Press & Guide - April 18
Blight - in the form of vacant buildings and/or abandoned properties - is a challenge to keeping any community vital and viable. It's good to see Dearborn being renewed ... and to know that redevelopment is following the demolition.
That's the Point!

Off the Drawing Board: Last comment on Tax Day, from the April 11 Press & Guide. The April 17 deadline supported procrastination and I'm guilty. What did I do? Filed for an extension an mailed the IRS a check!

CARTOON of the DAY: Are You Taxed Yet?

The News-Herald - April 15
It's that "taxing" time of the year, and this year, we have a extra 48 hours to worry. Or not.
That's the Point!

CARTOON of the DAY: Putting Down(river) Roots

The News-Herald - April 11
I'm thinking "spring" and that means my vegetable garden and tending the various other decorative gardens around our yard. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to celebrate community gardening. May all your efforts bear fruit (or vegetables) this season!
That's the Point!

CARTOON of the DAY: Eggs-tra Special!

The Press & Guide - April 4
Ever wonder what the Easter Bunny has for breakfast? You can bet it isn't eggs! Best wishes for a glorious Easter to all my readers in Dearborn, Dearborn Heights and the surrounding communities who see my cartoons every week in The Press & Guide!
That's the Point!

CARTOON of the DAY: It's April 1 - No Foolin'!

The News-Herald - April 1
April Fool's Day ... did someone catch you? Did you catch someone else? No matter how thoughtful or elaborate the prank - this spring, nobody can outdo our Downriver weather!
That's the Point!

CARTOON of the DAY: We Always Pay

The Press & Guide - March 28
It's as simple as that, isn't it really? Taxpayers are always the defendant, no matter what public entity is named in a lawsuit. Who loses? Follow the money.
That's the Point!

CARTOON of the DAY: A Million Here, A Million There; Pretty Soon It's Real Money

Crain's Detroit Business - March 26
I've never been good with math ... that's why I went into Fine Art at Wayne State University - no math requirement. (... not that I ended up being any good at fine art, either!) So, forgive me if headlines with numbers confuse me; but when I see the deficit that Detroit is struggling with and the values of some high profile Detroit athletes' contracts, my reaction is "Huh?!" Hey, I'm happy at the end of the month if I'm running only a $20 "deficit" after I've paid the mortgage, tuition, an' utilities.
That's the Point!

Off the Drawing Board: A couple of alternative Crain's Detroit Business editorial cartoon ideas that I discussed with the editors there for this week. I still like the Department of Energy loans concept - you may see that one "recycled" sometime soon - in the spirit of environmental responsibility, of course!
