CARTOON of the DAY: Eggcellent Choice for Easter Brunch

The News-Herald - March 31
After a long week coloring eggs, and an all-night/worldwide delivery route, who could blame the Easter Bunny for ordering Egg Beaters for breakfast? Happy Easter!

CARTOON of the DAY: Eggausting Week

The Press & Guide - March 27
While many of us are counting the minutes until Easter break, and maybe even anticipating a short week to get an early start on the holiday break, there are some individuals who are working overtime this week.

CARTOON of the DAY: All too (un) Common Signs of Spring

The News-Herald - March 24
While orange barrels, construction road signs and, of course, rising gasoline prices, may now be the most common signs of spring in our communities, robins and increasing sunshine are still the most welcome signs.

CARTOON of the DAY: Has Spring Sprung?

The Press & Guide - March 20
There's the calendar, and there's reality. March 20 may be the first day of spring 2013, but nobody in town went out sporting anything remotely like their spring wardrobe. You may be thinking about tuning up the lawn mower, but my advice is don't mothball the snow blower just yet!

CARTOON of the DAY: Detroit 911

Crain's Detroit Business - March 18
Did somebody call 911 on behalf of financially beleaguered Detroit? Uh, yeah ... a long time ago ... but the first responders were parked outside the city limits until all the shouting in City Council was over (well, at least until the shouting subsided a bit). Let's keep our collective fingers crossed that the response was in time because a healthy Southeast Michigan depends on the recovery of the City of Detroit.
That's the Point!

Off the Drawing Board: For nearly two weeks, Jennette Smith, my editor at Crain's Detroit Business, and I worked on variations of EM editorial cartoons that played to the timeliness of both the Papal selection process and the naming of Detroit's Emergency Manager. Timing wasn't our ally, but I want to share of few of the roughs with you because, frankly, we were pretty happy with the concepts! (... and see if you can tell which one of the roughs below gave me a head start on the EM cartoon that appeared this week.)

CARTOON of the DAY: Our Daily Pot o' Gold

The News-Herald - March 17
Sometimes we don't realize that we're living at the end of the rainbow, and the "pot o' gold" we're often seeking is really all around us, in family, friends and our community. Happy St. Patrick's Day, everyone! ... and while you're celebrating, count (and toast) your daily blessings.

CARTOON of the DAY: Ga$ Money

The News-Herald - March 6
All my life, I've worked for gas money. As a kid, I mowed lawns and worked part-time at the neighborhood grocery so I could gas up my '65 Pontiac Catalina and cruise Gratiot between Van Dyke and Eight Mile Road. These days, I work to gas up my '12 Chrysler 200 and I "cruise" to and from work. Gas money is big money these days, and burning it ain't nearly as much fun as it used to be!

CARTOON of the DAY: What time IS it anyway?!

The News-Herald - March 10
For many people, it's as bad as (or worse than) jet lag ... fatigue, disorientation, a general sense of uneasiness. All because twice a year, we adjust our clocks by an hour?! C'mon, friends ... we have an extra hour of sunshine every evening to play a few holes of golf, spend a little time at the playground with our kids, or just sit on the back porch and enjoy the coming spring. Daylight Saving Time may appear to be an annoyance, but think about it ... it's a gift!
